PONDA: The Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) has decided to complete the pending work of Ponda Market Complex by spending Rs 1.43 crore.

The project was incomplete as few shop vendors has challenged and approached the Court due to which the contractor had kept the work pending.
PMC Chairperson Shantaram Colvekar said, “The issue has now been resolved as the vendors have compromised after PMC rehabilitated them with alternative shops.”He said, “The pending work would now begin and completed soon.”
“The lift has been installed and many shops are operating in Ponda Market Complex,” Colvekar said.
It may be recalled that the PMC had constructed the new Ponda Market Complex at a cost of Rs 38 crore in 2011. Though it was inaugurated it turned out to be a white elephant with most of the shops remaining closed.
“The shops have now been auctioned and the municipal council is expected to generate revenue from them,” Colvekar said.
The PMC has also got approval from Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) for setting up a biodegradable waste disposal project at an estimated cost of Rs 65 lakh.
“This will help not only treat PMC garbage but also help to treat garbage of surrounding panchayats,” the chairperson said.
