MARGAO: The South Goa Collector on Wednesday executed the directions of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) by sealing 18 rooms of the Furtados Guest house following complaint from Colva Civic and Consumer Forum (CCCF).
The CCCF had complained that these 18 rooms had no GSPCB nod to operate. The case was heard by the GSPCB and earlier the authority had withdrawn the consent to operate these structures. The order to seal the rooms was pronounced on April 13, 2018.
The Furtados Guest house which has been a landmark in the Benaulim-Sernabatim areas has also been in news for various complaints like the alleged CRZ violations and also the pollution related allegations.
CCCF had alleged that the 18 rooms seriously impact the environment and the guest house is being run without proper numbering of rooms. “In fact, there are no permissions for the guest house rooms operated by the Furtados and the ones which had permissions have been withdrawn by the tourism department long ago,” said CCCF Secretary Judith Almeida.
The NGT had ordered the demolition of all structures of Furtado Guest House  three years back after which the owner successfully got the order stayed by the SC, where hearings are presently on at the SC.
