VASCO: A place where people go to seek justice is itself in need of justice! The case in point is the Vasco court building.
The court building is leaking all over. People fear that if the building is not repaired immediately, it may result in serious consequences. However, PWD officials say they are awaiting financial sanction to issue the work order.
Kenneth Silveira, a litigant, said that the dilapidated condition of the ceiling of the building is shocking. “If the building is not repaired and rainwater leakage is not stopped, the court building will become a death trap,” he warned.
“The rain water on the floor has turned it slippery. And if someone slips and falls, who will be held responsible?” he questioned.
He said that the government authorities should immediately take note of this sorry condition of the building before anyone falls and gets injured.
“In my opinion immediate waterproofing should be done of this building to prevent anyone from falling. The government should utilise its funds for the welfare of the people,” Silveira said.
On a visit to court building, it was noticed that the building ceiling was leaking at several places and the floor was covered with papers. Rainwater seepage has made the floor tiles slippery.
When contacted, Judge Vijayalaxmi Shivolkar said, “I have taken note of the seepage taking place. We are in a process of taking steps to sort out this issue. The maintenance work has been time and again reported to PWD and our higher authorities.”
When contacted, PWD Assistant Engineer (Buildings), Nolasco Pereira said the estimate of the renovation work of the Vasco court building has been done. “The only thing is remaining is the expenditure sanction to issue work order,” Pereira added.
