QUEPEM: In a shocking case of fraud, a woman associated with an NGO, working for the welfare of senior citizens in Curchorem, has allegedly duped several senior citizens, many of whom were patients, to the tune of crores of rupees.

The accused is alleged to have misused the trust of her victims by accessing their SIM cards, withdrawing cash from their fixed deposits, and even stealing gold jewellery from their bank lockers.
A complaint against the woman has been lodged at the Curchorem Police Station. However, locals have expressed outrage over the alleged delay by the police in registering the complaint. Frustrated by the lack of action, residents on Tuesday evening stormed the Curchorem Police Station demanding immediate investigation and justice for the victims.
Aditya Dessai, a local, condemned the incident and called for strict action. “It is deeply troubling that someone tasked with serving senior citizens has taken advantage of their trust and vulnerability. The police must act swiftly to ensure justice for the victims. Any delay in investigating such a serious matter only erodes public confidence in law enforcement. The safety and dignity of our senior citizens must be prioritised,” he said.
The incident has raised concerns about the exploitation of vulnerable groups and the need for stricter monitoring of organisations working with senior citizens. Police officials have assured the hapless senior citizens that they are investigating the matter and will take appropriate action against the culprit.
