CALANGUTE: A Russian woman who was wandering around in a disoriented state on Candolim beach after forgetting the name of the beach shack where her other family members were seated, was helped by the Tourist Police unit and reunited with them on Thursday.

The police used a translation app to communicate with the woman and reunite her with her family. Police said the woman claimed to be in a disturbed state after receiving news that her husband had passed away and her son was undergoing treatment in a hospital in Russia.
In unrelated incidents, five Russian women tourists were rescued from drowning by Drishti Marine lifesavers recently on beaches in north and south Goa, saving the lives of the foreign tourists.
In one incident at Candolim, three Russian women, aged 30-40, found themselves stuck in a rip current while swimming together. A lifesaver who noticed them in distress rushed to their aid and brought them back to safety with the help of a rescue board.
In another incident at Benaulim, two Russian women, a 51-year-old and 52-year-old, were rescued by lifesavers after they were caught and dragged further into the sea by a rip current off the beach.
With the number of rescues rising as peak tourism season approaches, Drishti Marine has urged beachgoers to exercise caution, be responsible while enjoying the water and follow instructions from lifesavers posted on the beaches to ensure public safety.
