MARGAO, DEC 1
The Margao Municipal Council has made it amply clear to Fomento that all questions relating to the payment of money towards the setting up of the waste treatment plant at Sonsodo should be guided by the tender bids and nothing else.
The Civic body and its legal counsel is also believed to have conveyed to Fomento officials that the Municipality can only sign the Concession agreement with Sociedade Fomento and not with Fomento Green set up by the Goa-based company.
These points came up for discussions between the two parties at a meeting held to address points of disagreement between the two parties.
It may be recalled that Fomento had asked the Civic body to make the payments of Rs 1.32 crore at the time of signing of the Concession agreement. This was hotly contested by the Municipal legal counsel on grounds that the Civic body cannot make any payment without corresponding performance on the ground level.
In this connection, the Municipal legal counsel has made it quite clear to Fomento officials that all payments towards the setting up of the waste treatment plant and landfill site should be guided by the bids placed by the company.
The Civic body and Fomento officials along with their legal counsels are scheduled to meet again in a day or two, even as Fomento Green CEO Sridhar Kamat called on Margao Municipal Chief Officer Prasanna Acharya on Wednesday to discuss the various aspects of the Concession agreement.
Kamat said he had called on the MMC Chief Officer today to discuss a host of minor issues relating to the Concession agreement, adding that such meetings would continue between the two sides in the run up to the signing of the Concession Agreement.
