PANJIM: A day after Congress filed a disqualification petition seeking to restrain Health Minister Vishwajit Rane from contesting the by-polls, Rane said that the Congress party will be wiped out in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing the media, Rane said, “Congress has filed a disqualification petition against an individual who is not even an MLA of the House. Congress is getting more and more irrelevant today and in order to stay in the news, they are carrying out antics such as filing a disqualification petition which should have actually gone to the Speaker other than the High Court.”
“I have not defected but resigned as Member of the Legislative Assembly and am seeking a fresh mandate from the people. Nobody is interested in Congress, especially with the failed leadership of Rahul Gandhi who is going to be whitewashed in 2019,” Rane said.
Referring to the disqualification petition filed by Congress in the HC against him, Rane said pointed out that Congress MLAs Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco and Francis Silveira were also absent during Speaker and Deputy Speaker elections despite signing the whip and that they too attract disqualification.
“Congress has lost its relevance in politics and is trying to make statements to defend the party under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi who was not available to any of us to talk to after Congress got 17 seats in Goa. His number was not reachable and that is the state of affairs of the Congress for which he is responsible,” Rane said.
