The election for the Comunidade of Serula will be held on January 12. Several like- minded Gauncars will field a panel under the
banner of Serula Gaonkarancho Ekvott.
Explaining why the gauncars felt the need for concerted collective effort to overthrow the panel that has been ruling for the last 20 years, Adv Shankar Phadte said that the current heads have been involved in frauds and plunder of land.
“Only Agnel Lobo and Peter Martins’ family have been rotating and retaining power over the Comunidade. During this period, several bogus documents, financial irregularities, fake shareholders, zoneros and components were added during this time,” he said.
“A recent amendment to the Code of Comunidades has removed the Clause that earlier restricted the erstwhile members to recontest. This has given a free pass to the same families and shareholders retain power over the comunidade for decades. We were not able to protect the financial interests of the comunidade because meetings were never held,” he added.
Mahesh Mhambrey said, “Serula and Porvorim were villages that were economically as well as ecologically self-sufficient. Serula Comunidade land has been under the watch of the evil eyes and has become a concrete jungle. Several Gauncars of the Serula Comunidade have been noticing that the committee has become a family affair and is ridden by frauds. We have complained and found out that there is no audit, no minutes of meeting maintained. The heads are blacking out all the information from the components and we sense there is a scam.”
