MARGAO: Asserting that sealing of the Colva hotels do not auger well for tourism in the state, Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva on Saturday took pot shots at the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) and the activists for closure of the hotels.
“I want to know from the GSPCB as well as the activists why they have not been active in demanding action against the housing societies in Margao for discharging sewage in river Sal. It’s indeed surprising that the GSPCB and the activists only see the Colva creek, while turning a blind eye to the river Sal left contaminated by the sewage disposal. Why are they only raking up the Colva creek, while talking nothing about the polluted river Sal?” the MLA said.
The Benaulim MLA who was in Colva this evening to take stock of the situation arising out of Friday’s sealing exercise, said why even small restaurants and hotels run by Goan families were not spared by the GSPCB, while suspecting hanky panky behind the decision.
Claiming that the activists have now complained against shack owners as well, Caitu said that the activists have conveniently left out three shacks from the complaint list, while demanding to know why no complaint was lodged against the Tourism Department by the activists.
