MARGAO: There seems no end to the tug of war between the two groups vying to organise the Shigmo festivities in the commercial capital.
The Madgao Shigmotsav Samiti owing allegiance to former Chief Minister, Digambar Kamat has called a meeting of the Samiti on February 23 to elect a new Executive Committee for the year 2014-15 and chalk out the program for the Shigmotsav 2014.
Samiti Secretary Eknath Shirodkar informed that the meeting to be held at the Margao Municipal hall on Sunday at 11 am will be attended by Samiti President Vasant Shirodkar, MMC Chairperson Dayanand Deulkar and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat.
He told the media that the MMS headed by Vasant Shirodkar is the only registered Shigmotsav Samiti registered under the Societies Act and have been celebrating the Shigmotsav since 1988, over the last 26 years.
The rival Madgao Shigmotsav Samiti is headed by former BJP MLA Damu Naik, which had organised the Shigmotsav festivities in the city last year.
