Govt will review licensing policy to casinos,reiterates CM

Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Wednesday reiterated his earlier stand to review the policy of licensing and operation of casinos in the state, the only in the country allowing the gambling dens to flourish.
Kamat told mediapersons that he had already assured the Assembly that the government would review the policy in the backdrop of complaints, particularly against the offshore casinos operating along the coastline instead of overseas as per the licensing rules.
The Opposition had raised a hue and cry in the Assembly earlier this month exposing the policy on issuing licences for off-shore casinos.
The sixth casino, Maharaja, has joined the shores since Tuesday with both foreign and domestic tourists thronging the decks to try their luck even under stringent restrictions on their operation.
