According to the BJP State chief and MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade, the seven names include three former State Ministers and a former MP. The vacancy is created as the term of the incumbent State unit president is ending. “The new Goa BJP president is likely to be announced at the end of the month,” said Tanavade.

He said that the three former Goa Ministers include Dayanand Mandrekar, Dilip Parulekar and former Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar. The shortlisted former South Goa MP is Narendra Sawaikar along with former MLAs Dayanand Sopte and Damu Naik.

He said the name of senior party leader Govind Parvatkar’s name is also on the list of probables.

Interestingly, the party has not been able to elect Mandal president for Benaulim, Velim, Nuvem and Marcaim constituencies as the minimum basic membership criteria hasn’t been fulfilled yet. Tanavade said “We will be nominating and appointing Mandal presidents in these constituencies.”

Velim and Benaulim constituencies currently have Cruz Silva and Capt Venzy Viegas as MLAs who are affiliated to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

While Marcaim is the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) MLA Sudin Dhavlikar’s bastion. Aleixo Sequeira is the Nuvem MLA who is a Congress turncoat.

While commenting on the Presidential election of BJP, an old timer party member said, “Like the South Goa candidate was selected given to us, the president of the party will also be given in a similar manner”.

Meanwhile the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has informed that the Zilla Panchayat (ZP) elections will be held in December 2025 and Municipal elections will be held in March 2026.
