PANJIM: The Prisons Department has initiated an inquiry into a video of inmates led by notorious history-sheeter fearlessly moving around the Colvale Central Jail building and openly threatening a Nigerian accused.

Herald was the lone English daily that highlighted the news in its August 9 edition.
In a press statement issued through the Department of Information and Publicity, Inspector General of Prisons Gurudas Pilarnkar informed that the viral videos are “apparently pictured few months back and circulated now”.
“It may be informed that few newspapers have also carried out some press articles expressing concern about the safety and security of the prisons. The prison administration has taken due cognisance of the said clips and news articles. A detailed inquiry has been initiated in the matter including recording of the statements of few prisoners,” reads the press statement.
The authorities clarified that as many of the prisoners seen in the video have been released by concerned court on regular bail, decision on such prisoners is likely to be taken soon.
Two videos of 30 seconds and 20 seconds were reportedly shot around a week before history-sheeter’s release on conditional bail in a rape case.
The videos with Marathi music in the background show history-sheeter along with his gang of inmates walking in the building as other inmates were also outside their respective cells. Sources said one of his close associates also an inmate shot the video on his mobile phone.
