MARGAO: The Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress on Saturday staged a public protest against the exorbitant hike in the price of LPG gas.
In the novel protest, Congress members made tea and chapattis in front of the Margao municipal building on chulaa.

On the occasion, Mahila President Pratima Coutinho said that she has written to the prime minister and collectors of North and South Goa, bringing to their notice the steep rise in the price of cooking gas cylinder of 14.2 kg by Rs 145 per cylinder. She said that this is a big blow to household budgets.
“This exorbitant and unnecessary increase is demoralising crores of women striving to lead a happy and comfortable life. This is the sixth straight hike in LPG cylinders in the past six months since you came back to power. This is the phenomenal price increase which is clear punishment to the people who elected you,” said Pratima Coutinho.
She said that since August, the companies are hiking LPG prices every month, thereby burning a hole in common man’s pocket. “We Mahilas find that what goes under the pot now costs more than what goes inside it,” Coutinho said.
The Mahila Congress has requested the prime minister to look into the matter and roll back the price hike at the earliest.
It has also advised Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to take advice from the senior Congress leaders if he is unable to handle the costs and help the common man.
