PANJIM: There are major fireworks in Goa’s political circles over the comparison of CM Sawant with Goa’s First Chief Minister Dayanand Bandodkar, with MLAs Vijai Sardesai, MLA Venzy Viegas, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and MGP duo Sudin and Deepak Dhavalikar trading charges. The root case is the remark by Venzy Viegas and his unwarranted comparison of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant with Dayanand Bandodkar
At first Vijai Sardesai mocked CM Sawant’s comparison with Dayanand Bandodkar. “Comparison of CM Pramod Sawant with Goa’s first CM Dayanand Bandodkar is utterly amusing. Venzy Viegas comments equating the two are extremely superficial,” says MLA Vijai Sardesai.

MLA Venzy Viegas shot back saying “Vijay’s constant need to give opinions on everything reflects a classic know-it-all attitude. It’s ironic he contributed to BJP’s rise in 2017 and actions till 2019, leading to closure of govt schools, land scams, and conversions”.
CM Pramod Sawant shot back saying “Dayanand Bandodkar never had an allergy to Goa’s ‘Asmitai.’ Claiming he made mistakes or harbored such an allergy is a blatant insult to the legacy of Goa’s first CM. The real problem lies with Vijai Sardesai and his inflated ego.”
Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar criticized MLA Vijai Sardesai’s motives, saying “We are first Indians, then Goans.” He highlighted the immense pressure on Goa’s first Chief Minister, Dayanand Bandodkar, from top leaders of that era. “We cannot blame Dayanand Bandodkar & move forward; cannot compare any CM of Goa with Bandodkar,” Sudin said.
AAP President Amit Palekar said, this political one upmanship between the BJP and other parties should stop to take credit in the name of Dayanand Bandodkar. The Samadhi is lying in such a bad shape that the Bandokar Death Anniversary function had to be held outside the Samadhi, he pointed out.
MGP Chief Dipak Dhavalikar criticizes GF President Vijai Sardesai stating that “There was immense pressure on Bandodkar. When Opinion Poll was conducted Bhausaheb internally supported Dr Jack Sequeira’s movement on Opinion Poll”. Dhavalikar questioned Sardesai’s knowledge of Bhausaheb and his apparent “allergy” to MGP.
Goa Forward Party President Vijai Sardesai criticized CM Pramod Sawant for his remarks on former CM Dayanand Bandodkar, emphasizing Bandodkar’s role in Goa’s democratic revolution post-liberation. “I have no ego, but this is an issue of the CM’s ego. Dhavalikar rightly said no one should compare themselves to Goa’s first CM, Bhausaheb Bandodkar,” Sardesai stated.
