SANGUEM: Congress workers from Sanguem Block showed total dissent over the allocation of party ticket for Sanguem constituency. They demanded that henceforth the same be given to interested candidates from Sanguem. The Congress leaders present for the meeting also came in for severe criticism over the appointment of new Block Committee without consulting the party workers in Sanguem.
The meeting was held at ID Rest House, Pajimol Sanguem on August 27 and was attended by former MP Francisco Sardinha, AICC Goa Desk in charge Chellakumar, MK Shaikh, District President Joe, South Goa Mahila President Savitri Kavlekar, Rajanikant Naik, Josinho D’Costa, Joaquim V D’Costa, Josephina D’Costa, Jeetendra Naik and others.
Though the meeting was basically held to strengthen the party base and make preparations for the fast approaching Lok Sabha polls, there were grave differences in the manner the party affairs are run in Sanguem.
In the midst of the meeting, Chellakumar reportedly asked some of the party workers who were not happy with the party affairs to walk out of the hall at which point of time, some of the workers staged a walk out and the party leaders had a closed door meeting with select few individuals, claimed dejected party workers.
The workers raised big hue and cry over the appointment of new Block Committee without consulting the party workers and also sought to know from the leaders the reservation of Sanguem Block President’s post to a woman.
Incidentally, though the party leaders tried to reason out over the reservation policy adopted by the Party, the workers were not happy with the answer and sought to know which other constituencies have women Block Presidents which the leaders failed to answer.
The meeting subsequently ended with former MP Francisco Sardinha addressing the party workers and urged the party workers to work unitedly. Sardinha also reportedly clarified over the last Lok Sabha elections wherein his son contested as an independent candidate. Sardinha clarified that he had always been with the party and will always continue to support the party.
