RND Dismisses Two Employees for Financial Misconduct and Absenteeism

PANJIM: The River and Navigation Department (RND) has terminated the services of two staff for indulging in irregularities.

As per the order, in the first incident, Purnima Sinai Bharne, an LDC was terminated from the service on the charge of misappropriating funds of Rs 4.78 lakh.

Purnima was suspended from service in 2021 for failing to maintain the cash book as per rules and regulations and being involved in embezzlement of government money.

She was reinstated in service in June last year and was asked to join but she remained absent without any authority.

The order stated that Bharne had allegedly misappropriated government money to the tune of Rs 4,78,117.

The other staff who was terminated was a sailor who was on a two-year probation period. The terminated sailor Yesh Agarwadekar, remained absent first for a 26-day period in 2023 and for more than 265 days since February this year.

He was issued several memos to report for duty but he did not nor was there any reply from him, the order said.

“By his conduct, he has failed to maintain devotion to the duty, he failed to maintain discipline in the discharge of duty thereby unbecoming of a government servant,” states the order issued by Octavio Rodrigues, Captain of Ports/Head of Department, RND.
