MARGAO: Goa Director General of Police (DGP) Alok Kumar, has called on police officers to work hard on public relations to function more effectively and transparently. He said that fostering a close working relationship between the police and the community can improve public safety and uphold the rule of law. He also urged officers to focus on public road safety to curb accidents.
The DGP’s visit was aimed at reviewing the logistics and infrastructure and exploring ways to enhance policing and road safety in South Goa.

During his visit to the South Goa police headquarters in Margao, DGP Kumar held a meeting with police officers and conducted an inspection of the Margao police lock-up. Present at the meeting were Sunita Sawant, Superintendent of Police (South Goa); DySP Margao Santosh Dessai; DySPs Rajendra Dessai, Shivram Vaigenker, DySP (South Goa Traffic) Prabodh Shirvoiker and Sanjay Dalvi, inspector of the Margao Traffic Cell, among others.
DGP Kumar addressed the grievances of the police personnel in South Goa . The issue of constructing new police stations at Quepem and Colva was raised during the meeting. It was informed that land acquisition for a new police station at Colva is likely to occur soon. He also inspected the Colva police station.
When asked by the media about police officers’ lack of responsiveness to the public, DGP Kumar stated that the Goa police have a good reputation for quickly solving serious cases. He cited the example of a case in Calangute, which was resolved swiftly by the Goa police. He reiterated that the purpose of his visit was to review logistics and infrastructure and to further improve policing and road safety in South Goa.
