The controversy surrounding the Margao Municipal Council’s (MMC) recruitment process has intensified, with Prof. Joan Rebello demanding a full fledged inquiry into what she alleges are deliberate lapses designed to deprive deserving candidates of job opportunities.
Prof. Rebello criticized the MMC for its failure to ensure a transparent and accessible process cess for all applicants.

She pointed out that if the Council found it ex-pensive to mail admit cards to every candidate;
it could have simply sent them via email “at prac-tically zero cost.” Instead, she claimed, the Council opted for ordinary post – a move he says created opportunities for vested interests to withhold ad mit cards and prevent de-serving candidates from appearing for the written test.
“This isn’t just negli gence; this reeks of a hid-den agenda,” Prof. Rebello said. “Such deliberate ac-tions are unacceptable in a civic body that is supposed to serve the people of Mar-gao.”
Calling upon the city’s unemployed youth to rise in unity, she urged them to “stand by the truth and de-mand their rights in writ-ing” to hold the authorities accountable. She warned that unless the youth act collectively, “unscrupulous politicians will continue to steal jobs from deserving candidates.”
This demand for ac-countability comes in the backdrop of past allega-tions of irregularities in MMC recruitments, where candidates had complained of opaque procedures and favouritism. Despite re-peated assurances of re-form, activists argue that little has changed, eroding public trust in the civic administration.
Residents and civil so-ciety groups are now de-manding that the govern-ment step in to conduct an impartial probe to restore faith in the system. “The youth of Margao deserve fairness, transparency, and opportunities based merit, not political connec-tions,” Prof. Rebello em-phasized. on
With pressure mount-ing, all eyes are now on the MMC and state authorities to see whether they will address these allegations and take steps to ensure a recruitment process that upholds integrity and equal opportunity.
