After Two Weeks of Wrecking Goa Plantations, Elephant ‘Omkar’ Moves to Maharashtra”

After two weeks of destroying plantations across villages in Pernem taluka, Goa, the rogue elephant ‘Omkar’ has reportedly moved into Madura Rekhwadi, Maharashtra. Locals said Omkar caused heavy damage to plantations in Mopa, Torxem, Tambosem, and Ugvem, leaving farmers awaiting government compensation for their losses.

Villagers in Ugvem had planned a ‘Hathi Bhagao’ campaign on Sunday, intending to scare the elephant away using crackers, drums, and torches, frustrated with the Forest Department’s inability to prevent the damage.

The Forest Department is now monitoring Omkar’s movements near the Terekhol river, while farmers in both Goa and Maharashtra remain concerned about the elephant returning to Pernem due to the porous state border.
