Eight years after work began on the much-anticipated Curchorem Sports Complex, the project remains incomplete and has now turned into a derelict structure resembling a ghost house.
The project, undertaken by GSIDC, was abandoned midway by the contractor despite crores of rupees already being spent, leaving behind a deteriorating concrete skeleton. Locals allege that in the absence of supervision and security, the site has been looted and allowed to decay over the years.

What was once planned as a modern facility now paints a grim picture—an unfinished swimming pool has turned into a pond where buffaloes bathe, stray dogs and bats have made the building their shelter, and overgrown vegetation has engulfed the premises, giving it an eerie, neglected look.
Iron structures and internal roads inside the complex are rusting, while stagnant water has created breeding grounds for mosquitoes, sparking health concerns over malaria and dengue among nearby residents. The corroded framework is also feared to be at risk of collapse.
Residents say the abandoned sports complex stands as a stark reminder of wasted public funds and official apathy. They have called on the authorities to either complete the project or restore and secure the site before it deteriorates beyond repair.
