The Odisha government on Monday extended the suspension of internet services in Cuttack till 7 p.m. on October 7, as tension continues to grip the city following a series of violent incidents during the Durga idol immersion festivities last week.
The Cuttack district administration cited concerns over the misuse of social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and X, warning that provocative or inflammatory content circulating online could further disrupt public order and peace.

Authorities said the move was necessary to prevent the spread of rumours and maintain law and order.
The city witnessed two separate outbreaks of violence in the Daragha Bazar area between Friday and Sunday, leaving at least 31 people injured, including 10 police personnel. Security has been tightened across sensitive zones, and police patrolling continues to ensure peace returns to the city.
