A major accident occurred on Sunday at Sonarkhend near Siolim, when a Karnataka-registered four-wheeler collided with a Fascino scooter, leaving one person seriously injured.
According to reports, the scooter rider, a resident of Chopdem, was travelling from Siolim towards Anjuna when the tourist vehicle, coming from Assagao–Sonarkhend towards Siolim, hit the two-wheeler before ramming into a roadside tree. The impact left the rider with severe leg injuries, and he was immediately rushed to the District Hospital in Mapusa for medical treatment.
The tourist couple travelling in the car escaped with minor injuries. However, both vehicles suffered extensive damage due to the high-impact collision.
Following the mishap, the Anjuna Police detained the car driver for inquiry and have begun a detailed investigation into the circumstances leading to the crash. The Traffic Cell and police personnel also conducted a panchanama at the site to record evidence and assess the extent of damage.
Police sources said rash and negligent driving is suspected to have caused the accident. Authorities have urged motorists, particularly tourists unfamiliar with local roads, to drive cautiously and adhere to speed limits to prevent such incidents. Further details are awaited.
