Calangute MLA Michael Lobo on Monday commented on the ongoing investigation involving Roshan Redkar, who has been summoned for questioning. Calling the controversy a “desperate attempt to gather a huge crowd,” Lobo said such tactics no longer work in today’s political climate.
“Roshan is my friend and we have worked together. He claimed that he has resigned from the BJP, but that still needs to be verified. Politically, he can contest against anyone, not just me. This is a democratic country and I don’t target anyone personally,” Lobo said.

Turning to the growing concerns over safety lapses in Goa’s nightlife venues, Lobo stressed that he is not opposed to nightclubs but demanded strict enforcement of safety standards.
“Proper exits and fire safety measures must be made mandatory. Until all safety protocols are fully complied with, the licences of these clubs should be suspended,” he said, warning that no establishment should be allowed to operate without meeting essential safety norms.
The MLA also said that accountability must extend to authorities and local panchayats that issued permissions without conducting adequate checks. Underscoring his own commitment to safety, Lobo noted, “I have personally invested ₹75 lakh in fire safety equipment for my hotel. Safety cannot be compromised at any cost.”
The investigation involving Redkar continues as officials examine compliance and responsibility across the region’s heavily trafficked nightlife sector.
