PANJIM: The Verna Industries Association (VIA) emerged triumphant in the third GCCI Alliance Cup Cricket defeating hosts Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) by 30 runs in a thrilling final at the Panjim Gymkhana ground, here, recently.
Organised by the GCCI, the tournament aimed to foster camaraderie and sportsmanship among industrial associations and it drew a large crowd of business leaders and enthusiasts. Six teams participated in the day-long event, which was inaugurated by GCCI President Pratima Dhond.
The teams included the Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG), Verna Industries Association (VIA), Goa State Industries Association (GSIA), Goa Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI), Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI) and the Bankers Team represented by RBI, SBI, Union Bank, NABARD, Bank of India and other banks.
Dhond, along with Manguirish Pai Raiker and Sandeep Bhandare distributed prizes to the winners.
Viraj Ekwade was adjudged as the man-of-the-series, while Sanjay Bhandari, Mohammed Shami and Naresh won awards for best batsman, best bowler and best fielder respectively.
Heads of various associations and banks attended the tournament, praising GCCI’s efforts to promote unity among the business fraternity through sports. The tournament was a resounding success, showcasing the spirit of teamwork and healthy competition among participating teams.
The tournament was organised by the GCCI and was coordinated by Sanjay Amonkar Director General of GCCI, Ambika Dhakenkar, Chetan Naik and Sanket Kaskar.
