President Murmu scheduled for submarine sea sortie off Karnataka coast

Rashtrapati Bhavan on Friday announced that President Droupadi Murmu will undertake a submarine sea sortie from Karwar Harbour in Karnataka on December 28. The visit will mark a rare milestone, as Murmu becomes only the second President of India to experience a submarine voyage, following Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s sortie in Visakhapatnam in 2006.

The submarine visit is part of the President’s four-day tour covering Goa, Karnataka and Jharkhand. She is scheduled to depart for Goa on the evening of December 27. During her tour, Murmu will also participate in several official and cultural engagements. In the past, the President has shown strong engagement with the armed forces, having flown sorties in frontline fighter jets, including the Rafale and Sukhoi-30 MKI. After completing her western India engagements, she will visit Jharkhand to attend cultural events and address the convocation ceremony at NIT Jamshedpur.
