The leadership reshuffle comes in the wake of AAP’s poor performance in the recent Zilla Panchayat elections. The party had removed Amit Palekar from the post of Goa unit president last month, two days after the election results were declared. While no official reason was cited for his removal, the decision followed the party’s dismal showing in the polls.

AAP had contested 42 seats and supported one independent candidate in the December 20, 2025, Zilla Panchayat elections but managed to win only one seat. Palekar, a lawyer by profession, had joined AAP ahead of the 2022 Goa Assembly elections and was projected as the party’s chief ministerial face at the time.

Before his appointment as state president, Valmiki Naik served as the Working President of the Goa unit and as a National Spokesperson of the party.
