Verna Police Book Man for Cheating and Sexual Assault on Pretext of Marriage

Verna police have registered a case against a man for allegedly cheating and sexually assaulting a woman on the pretext of marriage.

The complaint was lodged by a woman residing at Curpawaddo, Cortalim, who is originally from Bagalkot district in Karnataka. Police said the accused, identified as Deepak, a native of Uttar Pradesh and currently residing at Curpawaddo, allegedly befriended the woman and promised to marry her.

According to the complainant, the accused, under the assurance of marriage, borrowed approximately ₹4 lakh from her on several occasions. She further alleged that he repeatedly subjected her to sexual assault and later refused to marry her.

The woman also claimed that she was forced to consume milk mixed with abortion medication to prevent pregnancy, alleging that this formed part of a criminal conspiracy.

Police have initiated an investigation into the matter and said further action will be taken based on the findings of the probe.
