A pet dog was run over by an SUV in Seraulim, South Goa, in an incident that has triggered outrage among animal lovers, with the dog’s owners alleging that the act was deliberate.
According to the owners, the driver of the SUV initially claimed that the incident was an accident. However, CCTV footage from the area later revealed that the dog was lying ahead of the vehicle before being run over, contradicting the driver’s version of events.

A veterinary examination conducted after the incident confirmed that the dog suffered severe internal injuries and has been left permanently maimed.
Taking serious note of the case, the District Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA), South Goa, has filed a formal complaint at the Colva Police Station. The complaint seeks action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
Police have registered the complaint and said that an investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident and fix responsibility.
Animal welfare activists have called for strict action against the accused to send a strong message against cruelty towards animals.
