The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has successfully busted an international oil smuggling racket following a meticulously planned sea-air coordinated operation carried out on February 5 and 6, 2026.
According to officials, the operation led to the dismantling of an elaborate network involved in the illegal transfer of large quantities of oil and oil-based cargo originating from conflict-ridden regions.

As part of the operation, three suspect vessels were intercepted around 100 nautical miles west of Mumbai. The coordinated deployment of surface ships and aircraft enabled the Coast Guard to track and apprehend the vessels before the contraband could be offloaded or transferred further.
Authorities said the operation marks a significant breakthrough in curbing transnational maritime crime and preventing the misuse of Indian waters for illegal trade.
Further investigation is underway to identify the individuals and syndicates involved, trace the origin and destination of the smuggled cargo, and uncover the full extent of the network. The Indian Coast Guard reiterated its commitment to maintaining maritime security and safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests.
