A Class IX student of G.S. Amonkar High School, Mapusa, was hospitalised on Wednesday after allegedly being assaulted by a classmate inside the school premises.
According to a complaint filed at the Mapusa Police Station by the student’s father, Rajesh Gopal Shetgaonkar, the incident occurred on February 5, 2026, during the physical education period at around 10.30 am. The complainant said he received a call from the class teacher informing him that his 14-year-old son, Rughved Shetgaonkar, was unwell and needed immediate medical attention.
On reaching the school, Shetgaonkar reportedly found his son in severe pain and was told that he had been attacked by a classmate. The injured student was initially taken to the District Hospital, Mapusa, and later referred to Goa Medical College, Bambolim, for a CT scan. He was subsequently admitted again at the District Hospital for further treatment.
The complaint alleges that the student was called into a school toilet by the classmate and assaulted by slapping and punching, causing bodily injuries and trauma. It has also been claimed that a similar assault had taken place a day earlier within the school premises.
Stating that the assault was unprovoked and deliberate, the complainant has urged the police to take immediate action and ensure his son’s safety at school.
Mapusa Police have acknowledged the complaint and said that further investigation is underway.
