Villagers from Chimbel on Sunday staged a protest at Azad Maidan against the proposed Unity Mall project, demanding that the government shift the project to an alternative location.
Raising slogans and holding placards, the protesters expressed strong opposition to the project, stating that it would adversely affect the village and its surroundings. They issued a one-day ultimatum to the government to reconsider the proposal and relocate the project.
Addressing the gathering, Ajay Kholkar said the villagers are seeking a written assurance from the General Administration Department (GAD) and the Tourism Department regarding the shifting of the project. He warned that if the demand is not met within the stipulated time, the agitation would be intensified.
The protesters reiterated that they are not against development but want projects to be implemented in a manner that does not harm local communities or their interests.
