Superintendent of Police Karthik Kashyap said they have applied in the Juvenile Court at Merces and JMFC Court in Panjim to conduct the lie detector test on both witnesses who were accompanying Fr Bismarque on the night he died.
Kashyap said that as one witness is a minor they need to seek permission from the juvenile court.
Speaking to Herald, Kashyap said that statements of more witnesses have been recorded and cross-examination is in process based on different sets of statements. He also said that the family has named a few suspects in their statements and this is being scrutinized.
“One friend of Bismarque has named seven people and family members have stated three other suspects in their statements. We are verifying each and every claim in the statements made by all the witnesses,” Kashyap told Herald.
Fr Bismarque died in St Estevam in mysterious circumstances. His body was fished out from River Mandovi after it went missing on November 5. Family members have so far not claimed the body for the final rites and are demanding a thorough investigation.
CB has formed a special team to investigate the case following a huge public outcry over lapses in investigation. DySP Sammy Tavares has been appointed as the investigation officer under the Kashyap’s supervision.
