Two cottages at Tivai Vaddo in Calangute were completely destroyed in an early morning fire, causing panic among residents in the coastal village.
Firefighters from the Pilerne and Mapusa fire stations responded promptly to the emergency and managed to bring the blaze under control. Their swift action prevented the fire from spreading and saved six nearby cottages from damage.
Two tourists from Mysore who were staying in the affected cottages were alerted in time and escaped without injury. No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident.
Preliminary investigations indicate possible foul play, with suspicions that petrol may have been poured on the door to start the fire. Police have initiated an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
