The panel backed by former minister Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate and supported by the Bharatiya Janata Party registered a sweeping victory in the elections to the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP), winning 27 of the 30 wards in the Panaji civic body.
The rival panel backed by the Ami Panjekar group managed to secure three seats in the corporation.
The decisive mandate gives the Babush Monserrate-led panel a commanding majority in the Corporation of the City of Panaji, strengthening its control over the functioning of the municipal body.
The results mark a significant political victory for the Babush-backed panel and its supporters, as the newly elected councillors are expected to take charge of civic governance in the state capital.
