Panjim MLA Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate on Friday said that elected representatives must always remain accountable to the people, following his panel’s sweeping victory in the elections to the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP).
Reacting to the outcome, Monserrate stated that no candidate should believe they are above the voters, emphasising that the electorate ultimately holds the power in a democracy. “No one is above the people,” he said while addressing the media after the results were declared.
The Babush-backed panel secured a dominant mandate in the Panaji civic body elections, winning a majority of seats and consolidating its control over the municipal corporation.
Monserrate also expressed gratitude to Pramod Sawant for his support during the elections. He further thanked Damu Naik for extending strong backing to his panel throughout the campaign.
He said the victory reflects the trust placed by the people of Panaji in the panel and assured that the elected councillors will work towards addressing civic concerns and improving infrastructure in the city.
