South Goa: Authorities have intensified surveillance measures ahead of the upcoming Ponda Assembly by-election scheduled for April 9, aiming to ensure a free and fair electoral process.
District Electoral Officer Egna Cleetus has directed enforcement agencies to maintain strict vigilance on any suspicious or unlawful financial activities during the election period.
A review meeting was convened with members of the Election Expenditure Monitoring Team along with officials from multiple departments. The focus was on closely tracking poll-related expenditure, monitoring the movement of cash, and preventing any attempts to influence voters through illegal means.
Representatives from key departments, including the Income Tax Department, police, customs, excise, banking institutions, and fire services, participated in the meeting. Officials stressed the importance of coordinated efforts among agencies to ensure smooth conduct of the by-election and adherence to electoral guidelines.
