Former India cricketer Ajit Agarkar has reportedly approached the BCCI seeking an extension of his tenure as chief selector until the 2027 ODI World Cup. Agarkar, who took charge of the selection committee in July 2023, was previously granted an extension ahead of IPL 2025, keeping him in the role until June 2026.
According to reports, discussions between Agarkar and the board are already underway. The BCCI is believed to be open to the proposal, particularly given India’s recent success on the global stage and the lack of immediate alternatives for the position. While a former cricketer from the West Zone has been mentioned as a potential successor, no concrete developments have emerged so far.

Agarkar’s tenure has been marked by significant achievements. Under his leadership, India clinched the T20 World Cup 2024, the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, and the T20 World Cup 2026.
