In response to ongoing disruptions in commercial LPG supply, the Department of Tourism, Government of Goa convened a high-level stakeholder meeting on March 31, 2026, to address fuel shortages and accelerate the transition to Piped Natural Gas (PNG) across the hospitality sector.
The meeting was chaired by Sandip Jacques, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Tourism Department, along with Sanjiv Gadkar. It brought together officials, oil and gas companies, PNG providers, and representatives from travel, tourism, restaurant, and shack associations.

Discussions focused on the growing shortage of commercial LPG, which has been impacting restaurants, beach shacks, and allied tourism businesses across Goa. Authorities reiterated that, in line with directives from the central government, commercial establishments must transition to PNG to ensure a more stable and scalable energy supply.
Rohan A. Khaunte, Minister for Tourism, emphasised the government’s commitment to strengthening the tourism ecosystem through reliable infrastructure. He noted that the shift to PNG would ensure consistent energy supply and improve ease of operations for stakeholders.
Highlighting the urgency of the transition, Jacques stated that moving to PNG is essential not only from a regulatory standpoint but also for long-term sustainability. He urged stakeholders to actively promote awareness and ensure timely application for PNG connections, as the process depends on formal requests from end-users.
The meeting also served as a platform for stakeholders to raise concerns, including delays in PNG connections, infrastructure readiness, and operational challenges. Government officials assured that steps are being taken to streamline procedures and fast-track approvals.
The Tourism Department stressed that resolving the issue requires coordinated efforts from both suppliers and users, urging immediate action to overcome current supply constraints. It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the interests of the tourism and hospitality sectors while advancing long-term energy transition goals.
