Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday stated that the country’s military operations against Hezbollah are ongoing, with forces reportedly close to taking control of the group’s stronghold in Bint Jbeil, even as international calls for a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon intensify.
In a video address, Netanyahu said he has directed the Israeli military to continue strengthening the security zone in southern Lebanon while simultaneously engaging in negotiations with Lebanon for a possible peace agreement.
Highlighting the significance of the talks, Netanyahu noted that such negotiations had not occurred in over four decades. “These discussions are happening now because of our strength, and multiple countries—not just Lebanon—are approaching us,” he said.
According to the Prime Minister, Israel’s key objectives in the negotiations are the dismantling of Hezbollah and the establishment of long-term peace, which he described as being “achieved through strength.”
The latest escalation follows renewed hostilities between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah, which intensified after joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28 triggered a broader regional conflict.
