CANDLELIGHT PROTEST ERUPTS IN SIOLIM OVER TREE FELLING

A candlelight protest was held in Siolim after outrage over the alleged felling of heritage trees. Residents, environmental activists, and members of the local community gathered at Soro Junction along the Siolim-Assagao road to demand action. Holding candles and placards, protesters voiced concerns over reports that trees believed to be over 200 years old were cut during a late-night operation. Activists claimed the act may have violated a High Court stay order, raising serious environmental and legal questions. The demonstration saw strong participation from locals determined to protect Goa’s natural heritage. Protesters urged authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly and ensure accountability, while also calling for stricter measures to prevent further damage to the region’s ecological and cultural assets.
