The Central Bureau of Investigation will officially take over the investigation into the murder of Chandranath Rath, personal assistant to West Bengal leader Suvendu Adhikari, from today.
Earlier, the West Bengal Police had recommended that the case be handed over to the CBI for further investigation. Following the recommendation, the central agency will now formally assume charge of the probe from the state police.
In an official press release, the CBI announced that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) would be constituted to investigate the murder case. The SIT will function under the supervision of the Joint Director and Head of Zone (HoZ) of the Kolkata Zone.
The agency further stated that officers and officials from the Kolkata Zone would be included in the SIT as required to ensure a thorough and effective investigation into the case.
The development marks a significant step in the high-profile murder investigation, which has drawn considerable political attention in West Bengal.
