Just two days after taking oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Vijay has made a decision that has grabbed the attention of the Tamil film industry. The actor-turned-politician granted special permission for 9 AM shows of Karuppu, the upcoming action drama starring Suriya and Trisha Krishnan.
The makers of Karuppu announced the update through their official X handle on Tuesday evening. Along with the announcement, they shared a photograph of Vijay working from the Chief Minister’s office. The post thanked the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for approving the special screenings and confirmed that the film’s first-day-first-show would begin at 9 AM on May 14.
Directed by RJ Balaji, Karuppu is set for a worldwide theatrical release on May 14. The film features an ensemble cast including Indrans, Natty, Swasika, Sshivada, Anagha Maya Ravi and Supreeth Reddy in key roles. The music for the film has been composed by Sai Abhyankkar.
Special early morning screenings were once common for major Tamil releases, particularly for films featuring top stars. However, authorities in Tamil Nadu have largely stayed away from approving such shows in recent years due to concerns over crowd management and fan celebrations outside theatres.
Vijay and Trisha remain one of Tamil cinema’s most popular on-screen pairs, having acted together in successful films such as Ghilli, Thirupaachi, Aathi, Kuruvi and Leo. Their off-screen friendship has also remained a topic of discussion online for years.
Recently, speculation surrounding Vijay and Trisha intensified after the actress attended Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. However, neither Vijay nor Trisha has publicly commented on the rumours surrounding their relationship.
