C. Joseph Vijay officially finalised the allocation of ministerial portfolios on Saturday after Rajendra Arlekar approved the recommendations submitted by the newly formed government.
The development comes just days after actor-turned-politician Vijay took oath as the Chief Minister following the remarkable electoral performance of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The two-year-old party emerged as the single largest formation, surprising political observers across the state.
According to an official release from Lok Bhavan, Chief Minister Vijay will personally oversee several key departments including public administration, general administration, police, women and youth welfare, welfare of children, senior citizens and differently-abled persons, along with municipal administration, urban development and water supply.
Senior leader K A Sengottaiyan has been assigned the crucial finance portfolio, while K G Arun Raj will serve as the state’s health minister.
P. Venkataraman has been given charge of the food and civil supplies department, whereas Aadhav Arjuna will head public works and sports.
S Keerthana has been appointed minister for industries, while R Nirmal Kumar will oversee energy resources and law.
Rajmohan has been entrusted with the school education portfolio, and TK Prabhu will manage the natural resources department.
The cabinet allocation marks the formal completion of Vijay’s first government after the party’s historic rise in Tamil Nadu politics.
