According to reports, the 35-year-old will feature in the T20 Mumbai League 2026, which begins on June 1, where he is expected to represent Triumph Knights. The decision underlines Surya’s hunger for game time despite already playing continuous cricket for both franchise and country.

The aggressive batter is also understood to be keen on participating in India’s upcoming T20I tours of Ireland and England later this year. Since Suryakumar now primarily plays only the T20 format for India, he is believed to be eager to maximise his opportunities on the field rather than opt for rest.
His commitment comes at an interesting time in his career.
Although India recently lifted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup under his leadership, there were discussions in cricket circles regarding a possible leadership change in India’s T20 setup. However, reports have suggested that the team management currently has no immediate plans to replace him as captain.
Still, concerns around his recent form remain.
Suryakumar struggled significantly during IPL 2026 for Mumbai Indians, scoring only 210 runs in 12 innings at an average of 17.50. For a batter known for his explosive strokeplay and consistency in T20 cricket, the numbers marked one of his poorest IPL campaigns in recent years.

However, Surya’s international performances in 2026 paint a far more encouraging picture.
