Royal Challengers Bengaluru have suffered a major setback ahead of the IPL 2026 playoffs after star all-rounder Jacob Bethell cut short his campaign due to a finger injury, raising fresh concerns for England ahead of the home summer.The 22-year-old missed RCB’s final league-stage clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday after injuring his finger earlier in the tournament. RCB captain Rajat Patidar confirmed after the defeat that the youngster was unavailable because of the injury.Despite losing by 55 runs at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Bengaluru still finished on top of the IPL 2026 points table and booked a place in Qualifier 1 against Gujarat Titans.However, the bigger concern now lies with England cricket. The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed that the star all-rounder would return home immediately for further medical assessment ahead of the upcoming Test series against New Zealand.The youngster had emerged as a strong contender for England’s number three spot after impressive performances during the Ashes earlier this year, including a memorable century against Australia.The ECB stated that England’s medical staff would monitor his condition closely before taking a final call on his availability for the first Test at Lord’s beginning June 4.The injury now leaves England anxiously waiting for updates just days before the start of their crucial home summer.
