Tensions in the Middle East escalated sharply after the United States military said it carried out “self-defence” strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island and intercepted multiple Iranian missiles and drones targeting the region. According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), American and partner forces successfully neutralised incoming threats and conducted retaliatory strikes in response to what it described as Iranian aggression.
Kuwait’s military reported that its air defence systems intercepted incoming missiles and drones, while Bahrain activated warning sirens amid the heightened security situation. CENTCOM stated that two missiles aimed at Kuwait failed to reach their targets, while three missiles launched toward Bahrain were intercepted by US and Bahraini air defence forces.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed that it had launched retaliatory missile and drone attacks against US military positions in the region following the strikes on Qeshm Island. Iranian officials described the attacks as a response to American military action, although they did not specifically identify Kuwait or Bahrain as targets.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump rejected reports that negotiations with Iran had stalled, asserting that discussions between Washington and Tehran were continuing despite the renewed hostilities. However, reports indicate that ceasefire and diplomatic efforts remain fragile amid ongoing military exchanges.
The regional situation has been further complicated by continued Israeli military operations in southern Lebanon. The strikes come a day after Trump stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had agreed to halt planned attacks on Beirut’s southern suburbs. Despite those remarks, Israeli operations in Lebanon have continued, adding to concerns over widening instability across the region.
According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, at least 3,468 people have been killed and 10,577 injured in Israeli attacks since March 2, underscoring the growing humanitarian toll of the conflict.
