A social media post by a man whose house help abruptly quit after four years of service has triggered a wider conversation about loyalty, relationships and career choices.
In a post on X, Ankit Pandey recalled how his cook informed him that she would stop coming to work from the following day. According to Pandey, the woman had worked with his family for four years and received a 15 per cent salary hike every year. He said she was earning 15,500 per month and was regularly given festival bonuses, gifts and cash during occasions such as Diwali, Holi and Rakshabandhan.

Pandey added that he never deducted her salary even when she took extended leave for 10 to 15 days. Believing that their professional relationship had evolved into something more meaningful, he was surprised by her sudden decision.
When asked why she was leaving, the cook reportedly told him she had found a better-paying opportunity elsewhere. Although Pandey offered to match the salary, she declined, saying she had already accepted an advance from her new employer.
Reflecting on the incident, Pandey said he learned that people do not always leave because they are unhappy. Sometimes, they simply believe a better opportunity awaits them.
The post quickly gained traction online, with users offering differing views. While some sympathised with Pandey and spoke about similar experiences, others argued that workers have every right to pursue better opportunities and improve their financial situation.
