ALDONA: Heavy rainfall on Monday night led to the uprooting of a large banyan tree at Quitla Ground in Aldona, damaging electricity lines and causing a temporary power outage in the area. No injuries were reported in the incident.
According to local resident Alfi Lobo, the tree came crashing down at around 10.30 pm amid intense rainfall. The uprooted tree fell into a nearby field, bringing down electric wires and disrupting power supply to local consumers.

Residents promptly alerted the Fire and Emergency Services, who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident. Since the tree had fallen along an interior road and did not obstruct vehicular movement, authorities decided to carry out clearance operations during daylight hours.
“The tree suddenly came down due to the heavy rain at around 10.30 pm. We immediately informed the Fire and Emergency Services, who responded quickly. Thankfully, no one was injured, although the falling tree damaged electric wires and caused a power outage in the area,” said Lobo.
The damaged power lines resulted in electricity being cut off to several consumers. Power supply was restored approximately two hours later, while officials from the Electricity Department are expected to undertake permanent repairs to the affected infrastructure.
With heavy rains continuing across Goa, authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and exercise caution, particularly in areas with large trees and vulnerable utility infrastructure.
