DOHA: Qatari authorities have confirmed that 12 Indian nationals were among the 13 people killed in a deadly explosion at the Ras Laffan liquefied natural gas (LNG) complex on Sunday night, according to a statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Qatar.
“Qatari authorities have confirmed that 12 Indian nationals have unfortunately passed away in the Ras Laffan incident yesterday night. We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the departed souls,” the embassy said.

The explosion claimed a total of 13 lives and left 66 others injured, Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad al-Kaabi confirmed during a press briefing on Monday.
“I find myself today having to do something I have always hoped will never happen, and that is to announce the tragic loss of 13 lives of our people who hold Indian and Pakistani nationalities,” al-Kaabi said.
According to the minister, the blast occurred while workers were restarting operations at the facility. Activities at the complex had been suspended following an Iranian attack in March and were in the process of being resumed when the incident took place.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the explosion. The condition of those injured has not yet been officially disclosed.
The Ras Laffan industrial city is one of the world’s largest LNG production hubs and plays a key role in Qatar’s energy sector.
